OPERATION INSIGHT

Imagine your world encompassed in darkness. No light affects you. Sure, you can feel the warmth of the sun’s glow, but you can’t see it. As a result, you don’t see the trees of green or the red roses, too. Furthermore, you can’t experience the wondrous escape that those with sight can, through the joy of reading. Operation Insight is a philanthropic experience that provides an alternative to those who are sight-challenged. Our experience architects designed this program in collaboration with the not-for-profit “Insight For The Blind,” based in South Florida, that “helps improve the quality of life for blind and visually impaired children and adults and other print handicapped folks by promoting literacy, learning and aiding in the appreciation for the printed word. They do this through the recording of books, magazines and articles, while conforming to the rigorous standards of the Library of Congress, National Library Service for the Blind Talking Books program.” Additionally, the organization visits senior centers and children’s centers, providing live readings and outreach to the visually impaired.

Like our other philanthropic programs, Operation Insight is an experience that inherently fosters good will, collaboration, creativity, and teamwork amongst all involved. After earning the supplies they need, through a variety of mental and minimally-physical challenges, participants create knot blankets and “snuggle kits,” and wrap headphones for blind individuals to utilize during their personal auditory “reading” sessions. Additionally, teams decorate their own sound recording booths, where they’ll record a variety of magazine articles and short stories for the recipients, and create publicity campaigns, highlighting their teams’ spirit and work. This unique program truly illuminates the lives of those with visual special needs.
